Red Cross calls for an end to war in Gaza

Ramallah, August 6 (Prensa Latina) Only a lasting agreement between Israel and Hamas can put an end the suffering of prisoners and millions of people in Gaza struggling to secure the essentials for survival, the Red Cross affirmed.

The International Committee of the Red Cross stated that it is ready to import medicine and food for the population of the coastal enclave, as well as for the Israelis detained there.

The institution, which emphasized on the need to allow and facilitate a quick and unhindered flow of humanitarian assistance, stressed that “we are prepared to visit Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons and detention centers.”

In this regard, it noted that in the face of acute food shortages, which worsen daily, “civilians in Gaza must have immediate and sustained access to food, drinking water, and medical and hygiene supplies.”

The window to save lives in that territory is closing; the time to act is now, it emphasized. The report revealed that ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric spoke with Israeli President Isaac Herzog to try to secure humanitarian access, guarantee respect for international law, and alleviate the suffering of Gazans.

The organization clarified that it is not participating in the ongoing negotiations regarding a ceasefire, but assured that it will collaborate to mitigate the humanitarian crisis and facilitate the exchange of prisoners.
