Argentina: Multi-sector march in front of the Congress

Buenos Aires, Aug 6 (Prensa Latina) Doctors, nurses and male nurses, residents of the Dr. Garrahan Pediatric Hospital, retirees, teaching and university workers, scientists, and the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo converge in front of the Argentine Congress to claim for fair treatment.

While the multi-sector demonstration rages near the Legislative Palace, inside the Chamber of Deputies, bills that bother President Javier Milei will be debated, including the university financing law, the pediatric health emergency and national nursing homes, and the funding package that governors are demanding from the executive branch.

This Wednesday, various sectors of society, victims of the economic and social crisis caused by the austerity measures and President Milei’s policies, will converge on the streets to try to stop a new attack on the Legislative Branch.

The protesters will march to ensure that the Chamber of Deputies does not give in to pressure from the libertarian government and approves bills that could somewhat alleviate the situation of those most neglected ones by Casa Rosada (government).

Alejandro Lipcovich, union leader at Garrahan, expressed in a statement that the hospital workers will demand approval of the pediatric emergency, which includes salary increases for all staff, and the elimination of all measures that undermine public health.

The union of university professors and non-professionals, in addition to demanding that the deputies approve the much-needed funds for the operation of public universities, expressed that they will stand with retirees in their just demand for a salary increase.

Workers at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research will protest against the government’s attack on science while warning about the brain drain that is causing the destruction of the Argentine scientific system.

At the same time, Conicet workers will hold demonstrations in 13 cities across the country.
