The group marched from the State Library to Flinders Street and sat in the middle of the intersection for an hour; police immobilized a man who disrupted public order and five other protesters were arrested for obstructing the road.
The protest is part of a national action organized by the National Union of Students and Students for Palestine, who called for a student referendum on the current situation in Gaza.
The students want to vote on a motion of censure against the Australian government, alleging its complicity in the genocide in Gaza, and to end the arms trade with Israel.
National Union of Students education officer James McVicar said in a video posted on social media that they will continue to oppose the war and any politician or political party that supports it or acts of unprovoked aggression.
