Haiti: Religious denounce high level of violence

Port-au-Prince, August 7 (Prensa Latina) The Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince denounced the level of violence reached in Haiti, where crime knows no bounderies and the unthinkable becomes an everyday occurrence.

“Once again, crimes committed with chilling cynicism bear witness to the collapse of humanity in our society,” a statement emphasized.

The statement—published by the online newspaper El National—explained that eight people, including a child and an Irish missionary, were kidnapped from the Saint Helena orphanage in Kenscoff on the night of August 3.

The Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince expressed its horror at this kidnapping, as it was a place of care, refuge, education, and hope.

This religious entity described this act as barbaric and considered what happened a sign of moral collapse, a failure of the State, and a society that is losing its meaning for human life.

He urged the population to take concrete steps to reject this climate of dehumanization.

The Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince called on the authorities to put aside their internal disputes and assume their responsibilities to guarantee the safety of all and obtain the immediate release of the kidnapped individuals.
