Calls for monetary union among the BRICS nations to confront the hegemony of the dollar, and what they considered President Donald Trump’s economic blackmail of a country considered an ally, are also emerging on the X platform among internet users due to the growing indignation in the South Asian nation.
Similarly, several citizens are suggesting national marches and boycotts of US products and chains established in the country due to the Republican president’s measure.
The day before, Trump signed an executive order to punish India with an additional 25 percent tariff on its purchase of Russian oil, increasing tariffs on that country to 50 percent.
In an official response, India considered it extremely regrettable that the United States has chosen to impose additional tariffs on India for actions that other countries are also taking in their own national interest.
In a statement from its Foreign Ministry, New Delhi stated that it has already made its position clear on these issues and will take all necessary measures to protect its national interests.
It specified that imports from the South Asian country are based on market factors and are carried out with the overall objective of ensuring energy security for India’s 1.4 billion people.
It is time to build a global front against US intimidation, economic coercion, and wars, the Indian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
