Vietnamese President Begins state visit to Angola

Luanda, Aug 7 (Prensa Latina) The president of Vietnam, Luong Chuong, today began a state visit to Angola at the invitation of his counterpart João Lourenço, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The Vietnamese leader arrived in Luanda yesterday, where he was received by the Foreign Minister, Tete Antonio; the deputy governor of the province, Calunga Francisco Zage Quissanga; the respective ambassadors of both countries, among other figures.

The agenda of the president of the Asian nation provides, as the most autstanding issue, the meeting with the Angolan head of state, where they must assess the current state of cooperation and establish new ways to strengthen these ties.

During his stay in the country, Luong Chuong will also be received at the National Assembly with a solemn session, where he will deliver a speech to the legislators; he will lay a wreath on the commemorative plaque of the historical Vietnamese leader, Ho Chi Minh, will visit the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.

This is the first state visit of the Vietnamese President to Angola, and it coincides with the year in which both sides celebrate half a century of diplomatic relations, established on November 12, 1975, one day after Angolan independence.

The two countries have a General Cooperation Agreement, signed in 1978, and established a bilateral commission that meets every two years, whose last meeting was held in Luanda in March 2024.

They are currently cooperating in the areas of health, education, oil, security and justice, particularly with the presence in Angola of 79 Vietnamese doctors working in various specialties.
