Cubans commemorate 59th anniversary of OCLAE’s founding

Havana, Aug 11 (Prensa Latina) Cubans commemorate the founding of the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Student Organization (OCLAE) this August 11.

Emerged by agreement during the 4th Latin American Student Congress, it has played a significant role as a mobilizing and coordinating body for anti-imperialist struggles.

It has promoted, for almost six decades, actions for the reform and democratization of education, the eradication of illiteracy, and the development of unity and solidarity among students across the continent.

With the presence of 23 Latin American and Caribbean countries and through its nearly 40 member organizations, OCLAE boosts action against neoliberal policies and foreign debt that affect the region, as well as their repercussions on the worsening of social problems, mainly in education and culture.

It is also the standard-bearer of young students’ historic commitment to the aspirations of national liberation, the peoples’ independence, and the ideals of peace.
