In her regular press briefing, National Defense Ministry Spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata addressed the senior official’s announcement of his plans to take control of the Ta Krabev temple, under legitimate Cambodian control, and declare the closure of the Tamone Thom temple, which remains under the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Socheata noted that the actions mentioned by Commander Padklang violate the ceasefire agreement reached during the July 28 special meeting and the spirit of the subsequent extraordinary meeting of the General Boundary Committee (GBC) on August 7, both held in Malaysia.
The spokesperson recalled that participants in the GBC meeting agreed that none should move their troops, including refraining from patrolling beyond their current positions.
Cambodia remains steadfast in its stance toward a peaceful resolution to the conflict and its adherence to the principle of peace, and advocates for the strict implementation of the ceasefire agreement, the spokesperson emphasized, hoping that Thailand will also sincerely uphold these principles to solve border disputes and restore peace.
Referring to the overall situation along the borderline, Socheata commented that it remains calm and both sides should preserve this stability and work to improve it, avoiding any actions that could hinder it.
