A statement published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this European nation highlights that this is the largest Italian medical evacuation of children from Gaza since the beginning of the evacuation in January 2024, and includes family members of the young patients, for a total of about 120 people.
The humanitarian convoy includes three special Italian Air Force flights, one of which will arrive at Ciampino Airport in Rome, while the other two will land at Milan Linate and Pisa airports, from where the transfers will be made to various health centers.
This initiative expands Italy’s humanitarian activities for the civilian population of the Strip, within the framework of the Food for Gaza project, the document notes.
The Presidency of the Council of Ministers is coordinating this operation, along with the Foreign Ministry, the Ministries of Defense and Interior, as well as the Civil Protection Department, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the document adds.
After this latest medical evacuation, more than 180 wounded or sick children from the Strip have now been airlifted to Italy, along with their families, for a total of approximately 580 people. This makes Italy the fourth in the world, and the first among Western countries, to offer such aid to this tormented population.
