Raul Castro presided over a tribute to Fidel on his 99th birthday

Holguin, Cuba, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) Army General Raul Castro Ruz and President Miguel Diaz-Canel presided over the national tribute held in this Cuban province for the 99th birthday of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, national television informed.

At the political and cultural ceremony at the Castro-Ruz family’s birthplace museum in Biran, eastern Cuba, a commemorative program was held for the 100th birthday of the commander-in-chief, architect of the revolutionary process that extended beyond the Caribbean country’s borders.

During the keynote address at the celebration, attended by high-ranking officials from the nation, the province, and a representative of residents from neighboring territories, Roberto Morales, Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), praised the qualities of the honoree, whom his brother Raul Castro considered “the most illustrious son of Cuba.”

He highlighted Fidel’s personality, his deep conviction to always achieve victory no matter how complex the challenges were, his political leadership that raised him to an epic symbol of the Cuban nation, and his sublime sense of justice that gave voice to those who have no say in the face of adversity.

Morales stated that Fidel Castro dedicated himself to the tireless struggle for freedom and the emancipation of Cuba from the yoke of oppression, injustice, and neocolonialism. In this context, he rose to change the course of history, sowing the seeds of brotherhood, love, ethics, affection, and the true word in difficult times for humanity.

He also acknowledged his universal vision, connected to Jose Marti’s philosophy that “homeland is humanity.” In this regard, he also highlighted his fervent defense of peace, the preservation of the planet, and the just causes of people, especially those of the Third World.

La Colmenita, the Cuban children’s theater company, enlivened the celebration with several of its works dedicated to the historic leader of the Cuban revolutionary process.
