Observers monitor situation on Cambodia-Thailand border

Phnom Penh, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) A seven-member interim observer team traveled to Cambodian provinces bordering Thailand on Thursday to monitor the security situation there, National Defense Ministry Spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata announced.

Led by Malaysia’s Defense Attache to Cambodia, Colonel Nazlee Bin Abdul Rahim, the delegation also includes representatives from six countries: Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Vietnam, Socheata, who is also the Undersecretary of State, explained.

She explained that the observers will visit Military Region 5 in Battambang province, and the Poipet, O’Bei Choan (Chokchey village), and Boeung Trakoun border posts in Banteay Meanchey province, as well as Anseh in Preah Vihear province.

Solcheata recalled that this mission, quoted by the AKP news agency, arose from the results of the special meeting held on July 28 in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and the Extraordinary Meeting of the General Committee on Borders between Cambodia and Thailand, which concluded on August 7.

The National Defense Ministry spokesperson reaffirmed, in her regular press briefing, her country’s unwavering commitment to compliance with the ceasefire agreement and the principles of international law, the peaceful resolution of disputes, and the maintenance of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

She stressed that “Cambodian forces remain steadfast, vigilant, and committed to their duty.”
