Leaders of Japan and South Korea to hold talks in Tokyo

Tokyo, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) The Japanese government announced that Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will hold talks here next week with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, who will arrive on August 23 for an official visit.

After congratulating Lee on his election as head of State last June, Ishiba expressed his interest in strengthening communication between Japan and South Korea, not only at the governmental level but also in the private sphere, as both nations commemorate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic ties in 2025.

Lee will visit Japan for two days, and the Japanese government affirms its willingness to take every step to build a relationship of trust and for both countries to intensify cooperation in a variety of areas.

According to the Japanese prime minister’s agenda, starting August 20, Ishiba will co-chair the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), which will be held in Yokohama, neighboring Yokohama, for three days.

At the same time, preparations are underway for a meeting between Ishiba and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Japan later this month.
