Brazil celebrates 99 years of Fidel Castro: a legacy that never fades

Brasilia, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) In different corners of Brazil, the figure of Fidel Castro was once again evoked with emotion, gratitude, and political conviction, as the 99th anniversary of his birth was celebrated this August 13th.

The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, whose legacy transcends the island’s borders, was remembered in events that combined political reflection with cultural expressions, spanning from the federal capital to the most symbolic neighborhoods of northeastern Brazil.

Under the axiom that example is the most sovereign of virtues, at the Cuban Embassy in Brasilia, Ambassador Adolfo Curbelo opened the day with words that not only paid tribute to the Comandante, but also marked the beginning of a path toward his centennial.

Representatives of various political forces, social movements, and young people from the Brazilian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba were present at the ceremony, in an atmosphere marked by unity and admiration for Fidel Castro.

Beyond the capital, in places steeped in symbolism, such as Triplex Vermelho Cultural Center in the southeastern state of Espirito Santo, where the slogan was clear: “Fidel Castro’s 99th birthday: a legacy that will not fade away.”

There, the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba organized an evening in which anti-imperialist resistance was the key word, along with the Jose Marti National Association of Cubans Residing in Brazil.

Meanwhile, in Salvador de Bahia, the space Espacio Conceito Preto Fala de Amor, located in the emblematic Pelourinho neighborhood, was the setting for an intimate and moving evening, in which Fidel’s internationalism felt more alive than ever. jdt/mem/ocs
