PT-Brazil insists on dismissal of Bolsonaro’s son

Brasilia, Aug 15 (Prensa Latina) Brazil's ruling Workers' Party (PT) has filed a third impeachment request against Representative Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who remains in the United States and is currently violating legislative regulations.

According to the PT’s leader in the Chamber of Deputies, Lindbergh Farias, the parliamentarian violated internal regulations by not informing the assembly’s leader, Hugo Motta, about the length of his absence from Brazil.

The possibility of impeaching the legislator is not being discussed in secret, and Motta and the Internal Affairs Office are expected to refrain from taking action against him to avoid intensifying instability in the lower house.

However, the representative’s mandate is at risk, as regulations provide for the loss of office for abandonment.

This occurs when a congressman misses more than a third of the plenary sessions without justification.

Absences began to be calculated on August 6, after the start of the legislative semester.

Eduardo Bolsonaro obtained a 122-day parliamentary leave, granted by Motta on March 20.

Two days after that period were for health reasons, and the remaining 120 days were for “attending to personal matters.”

These are two of the leave possibilities provided for in the lower house’s internal regulations.

The PT’s request filed with the assembly’s Internal Affairs Office against Eduardo Bolsonaro argues that he remains in the United States without justification or authorization from the National Congress, which, according to the rules, constitutes abandonment.

The political organization also criticizes the congressman’s office for recording public expenses during the months he was on leave.

Impeachment is not the only action the PT is considering. It is also requesting the immediate suspension of his mandate and a salary freeze.

On the other hand, the party filed a complaint against Bolsonaro’s son with the Ethics Commission for lack of decorum and with the Attorney General’s Office for violation of sovereignty.

The congressman allegedly promoted international pressure actions against national authorities, including requests to revoke visas, freeze assets, and impose economic sanctions on justices of the Supreme Federal Court, as well as members of the Federal Police and the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office.
