Israeli forces arrest 21 Palestinians in West Bank

Ramallah, Aug 17 (Prensa Latina) Israeli security forces arrested 21 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, where they have been conducting a major offensive since early this year, focused on the northern region.

Wafa reported that six citizens, including three siblings, were arrested in the northern governorate of Nablus after raiding the villages of Duma and Barqa.

Soldiers arrested 10 people in the southern governorate of Hebron after a raid on the town of Beit Umma, where they searched numerous homes.

Two others were arrested in the town of Umm Safa and three in the city of Bethlehem, the news agency informed.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club and the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs Commission announced early this month that some 10,800 Palestinians, including 550 minors and 50 women, are held in Israeli detention centers.

The two prisoners’ affairs groups stressed in a joint statement that this figure is the highest since the Second Intifada, the Palestinian uprising that occurred from 2000 to 2005.
