Bolivia reports bomb blasting near a polling station

La Paz, Aug 17 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian Government Minister Roberto Rios confirmed that an explosion occurred near Jose Carrasco Technical and Humanistic School in Entre Rios, Cochabamba deparment, where Alianza Popular presidential candidate Andronico Rodriguez is scheduled to vote.

“The police are currently working to identify and validate information about an explosive device that detonated near a school, at the back of the place where Mr. Andronico Rodriguez was apparently scheduled to cast his vote,” Rios stated.

According to the official, despite this incident, the electoral process in the area is proceeding normally after the polling stations were opened without incident.

Previously, Rios told the press at the headquarters of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal that, according to intelligence sources and some activists close to former President Evo Morales, possible destabilization attempts are anticipated.

“Some surveillance points have been reinforced based on information being handled by sectors aligned with Evo Morales regarding the execution of an alleged arrest warrant at that location. However, these are more than just arguments, they are excuses to generate some kind of confrontation,” the official stated.

Rios called on citizens who have participated in the disturbances to give up “attitudes that endanger democracy, political rights, and social peace.”

He insisted that the preventive measures adopted so far have been successful and that the national government will continue working to guarantee a peaceful and safe election day.
