In a statement issued Monday, Foreign Minister Yvan Gil expressed concern about the interference of “external factors” in Serbia’s domestic affairs.
The Venezuelan government’s statement came after a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Gil and his Serbian counterpart, Marko Đuric, in which both officials reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.
Several protests have overwhelmed Serbian national news in recent days, intensifying after the collapse of the roof of the Novi Sad railway station in the northern city of the country, which resulted in the deaths of 16 people on November 1, 2024.
The protesters, including opposition members, demanded a thorough investigation and the release of those detained during the protests.
In response, the Serbian government published documents on the reconstruction of the Novi Sad railway station and called for talks among the opposition factions, who have so far failed to respond.
