Boko Haram’s leaders arrests in Chad

N'Djamena, August 19 (Prensa Latina) A prominent Islamist leader, Muslim Mohammed Yusuf, son of the founder of the radical faction known as Boko Haram, was arrested in Chad, according to military sources.

Paul Manga, a Chadian police spokesman, confirmed the arrest to local media on Tuesday.

Yusuf is the son of Muhammad Yusuf, founder of the Boko Haram group (now killed in action), and also a member of the so-called Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), which is responsible for numerous kidnappings and murders in rural areas of several countries in the region.

The 18-year-old boy was arrested along with six other Islamists in the Central African country, and his arrest was described as a severe blow to the radical faction.

He is a prominent Iswap fighter, and his arrest is undoubtedly a severe blow to the group, political observers said here today.

His father died shortly before his birth, along with other Boko Haram members, in 2009 as a result of a clash with the army.

Boko Haram and Iswap operate in Nigeria, Chad, and other neighboring countries, carrying out kidnappings, cattle rustling, and murders of farmers and ranchers living in rural areas.
