The director general of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Munir al-Barash, detailed that the number of operational hospitals has been reduced to 15, and only partially functioning, from the 38 that previously provided services in the territory.
Quoted by the Shehab news agency, the doctor revealed that the Israeli Armed Forces have killed approximately 1,590 health workers in the last 22 months, including about 200 doctors.
In addition, Israeli troops arrested 1,360 health workers, including Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, and Marwan al-Hams, head of field hospitals in Gaza.
The humanitarian situation has reached levels “more dangerous than at any previous stage,” he emphasized.
Al-Barash noted that some 40,000 infants and 250,000 children are at risk of slow death in the next six months due to severe malnutrition.
We have recorded 320 cases of spontaneous abortion due to malnutrition and lack of medical care, in addition to some 19,000 cases of acute diarrhea, half of them in children, due to pollution and high salinity of the water, he emphasized.
The doctor noted that anemia levels have reached unprecedented levels and, as an example, explained, only two out of 10 people are able to donate blood.
He warned that 70% of essential medicines have completely run out, worsening the humanitarian situation and threatening the lives of thousands of patients and wounded who need urgent treatment and medical evacuation.
