Cuban Government checks school year and basic services in Havana

Havana, Aug 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero attended the Extraordinary Government Council held in Havana to assess preparations for the upcoming school year and the state of basic services, national television reported.

During the meeting, Havana authorities detailed that about 274,000 students will enroll in 1,170 schools during the 2025-2026 school year.

However, they referred that the challenge of teacher’s coverage remains incomplete in the municipalities of El Cerro, La Lisa, Boyeros, 10 de Octubre, and Guanabacoa.

They explained that strategies are also being worked on to fill the teaching staff at junior and senior high schools, levels with the greatest teacher’s shortages.

During the meeting, it was revealed that summer activities prioritized family enjoyment and community participation.

The state of the water supply was also addressed; topic which is currently complex, although greater stability is expected with actions such as the repair of water pipe sections and the installation of seven new water supply systems at the main water supply sources.
