Cuban Foreign Minister highlights legacy of Yasser Arafat

Havana, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, today highlighted the legacy of the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat (1929-2004), on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of his birth.

The Foreign Minister stressed on social network X that Arafat’s tireless struggle for the inalienable rights of the Palestinians remains more relevant than ever.

“We honor his unwavering friendship with Cuba and Fidel Castro,” Rodriguez said on the platform.

Yasser Arafat was the first president of the Palestinian National Authority, and he led the struggle to demand that people’s right to self-determination.

In 1994, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his participation in the negotiations held in Oslo, Norway, a year earlier, for the liberation of Palestine and a permanent solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

His death, at the age of 74, took place in a hospital near Paris, after two weeks full of mystery and suspicion of poisoning.
