Bolivia’s TSE to consolidate general election results

La Paz, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia's Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) confirmed on Tuesday that it will consolidate the first-round results of the August 17 general elections, a step before their proclamation.

The (…) TSE will hold a full session to consolidate the results of the departmental counts. The nine departmental electoral tribunals have already physically submitted their polling results,” its member Francisco Vargas affirmed at a press briefing.

According to results nationwide and in 22 countries globally, Rodrigo Paz, of the Partido Democrata Cristiano (Christian Democratic Party-PDC), received the most votes with 32.06 percent, followed by Jorge Tuto Quiroga, of the Alianza Libertad y Democracia (Freedom and Democracy Alliance-Libre), who came in second with 26.70 percentage points.

Since neither candidate reached 50 percent plus one of the votes, or 40 out of 100, a 10-point difference over the second-place candidate, the PDC and Libre will compete for the Bolivian presidency in the October 19 runoff.

Regarding the runoff, Vargas stated that the Preliminary Results Transmission System (SIREPRE), which performed satisfactorily and accurately on August 17, will also be implemented.

The TSE member underscored that, in this way, this electoral process will be completed, and the country will be moving towards subnational elections.
