Despite the fact that opposition sectors oppose the reforms that allow indefinite presidential reelection and there are at least three lawsuits to annul the reform before the Constitutional Chamber, the TSE continues its work.
TSE sources said that changes must be made within the framework of the recent approved and ratified reforms to the Constitution of the Republic, with the objective of guaranteeing the joint organization of the presidential, legislative and municipal elections.
We are at a decisive stage of preparation. With these updates we reaffirm our commitment to organize orderly, reliable elections, aligned with the approved reforms, always for the benefit of Salvadoran democracy, declared the president of the organization, Roxana Soriano.
The elections in the country were to take place in 2029 and now the presidential, legislative and municipal elections are unified in 2027, in order to optimize resources and avoid permanent campaigns, said the directive.
