US actress Susan Sarandon joins new humanitarian flotilla to Gaza

Washington, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) Renowned US actress, producer, and activist Susan Sarandon is included among the participants in a new flotilla, which will depart on August 31 with humanitarian aid and a message of solidarity to the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Sarandon, winner of the 1996 Oscar award, will join the Global Sumud Flotilla alongside Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg and Nkosi Mandela, South African parliamentarian and grandson of late leader Nelson Mandela.

The Global Sumud Flotilla is an independent, nonviolent, civil initiative that will seek to open a humanitarian corridor, which aims to break the Israeli blockade against the Gaza Strip.

Organizers explained that the delegation includes representatives from at least 44 countries and the mission involves dozens of vessels, in an attempt to challenge the Israeli blockade against Gaza.

Reports state that the flotilla will depart from Spain on Sunday and will be joined by another group of vessels departing from Tunisia on September 4.

The delegation will include participants from 44 different countries, in what they describe as the “largest show of solidarity” since Israel imposed its maritime blockade of the coastal enclave in 2007.
