Cuba committed to the future of the Haitian people

Port-au-Prince, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) Cuba maintains its commitment to the people of Haiti, granting 32 scholarships for young people born in this Caribbean nation to follow their futures at local universities.

At the headquarters of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Haiti, Ambassador Carlos Moya met with the 25 students selected to pursue higher education studies at institutions run by the Ministry of Public Health on the neighboring island.

During this meeting, it was announced that seven other students will begin their professional training in different specialties within the Ministry of Higher Education.

These 32 young people have before them the example of the academic prowess of Jonas Jean, a poor Haitian who recently graduated this year from the University of Medical Sciences in Santiago de Cuba.

The young man born in Cite Soleil, one of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in Port-au-Prince, embodies perseverance and determination, having traveled a path marked by challenges and sacrifices.

Jean, that is a true source of inspiration for all those who believe in the power of education and perseverance, was one of 299 graduates from the Faculty of Medicine and the top graduate from the University of Medical Sciences of Santiago de Cuba, which this year has a total of 598 new physicians.

The Rectorate of the University of Medical Sciences Santiago de Cuba awarded the Haitian doctor the Scientific Merit Award, the University Faculty Award, and the highest distinction: the Award for the Most Complete Student of the University and Faculty.
