Hospitals there receive dozens of deaths and hundreds of wounded daily as a result of army bombing and attacks against those waiting for help, the doctor denounced in statements to the press.
He noted the growing number of hungry people arriving at health centers due to malnutrition and emphasized that hospital capacity in Gaza is between 270 and 300 percent full.
In this regard, the doctor explained that Al-Shifa Hospital only has three operating rooms, which he considered insufficient for the hundreds of wounded arriving daily. He emphasized the lack of intensive care beds and the progressive depletion of anesthetic drugs, gauze, and many other medications and supplies.
Abu Salmiya stated that in all areas of the Strip that are being subjected to intense bombing, the refrigerators that store corpses are completely full and there is no capacity for more.
“The situation is catastrophic in every sense of the word, and the hospitals are also unable to accommodate patients suffering from malnutrition and chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and kidney dialysis,” he noted.
He also highlighted the seriousness of the health and humanitarian situation, given the spread of epidemics in the tent camps for displaced persons due to the intense heat and the consumption of contaminated water.
The situation has reached a point of no return, given the total and complete collapse of the health system in Gaza, he said.
