Sudanese army denies conflict resolution through negotiations

Khartoum, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) The second-in-command of the Sudanese army, Malek Aqar, said that the war in his country will not be resolved without the total defeat of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

A military statement reads that the soldier made these statements from the city of Kosti, in the center of the country.

Aqar accused the paramilitaries of plunging the country into the worst humanitarian catastrophe on earth and specified that this situation will not be resolved at the negotiating table, advocating for the total defeat of the RSF.

The senior army commander said he is confident in the government’s ability, currently in the hands of a military junta called the Transitional Sovereign Council, to resolve the battle and end the state of conflict that is exhausting the country.

Political observers emphasize that Aqar’s statements coincide with a certain military advantage over the RSF, with the exception of the western region of Darfur, where regular troops only hold the town of Al Fasher, under siege for more than a year.

Since mid-April 2023, this African nation has been plunged into an internal war, after conflicts over power issues have flared between Army Chief Abdel Fatah al-Burhan and the leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

The fighting has already destroyed countless livelihoods, plunging the country into a complex spiral of hunger and death.
