Uruguay calls for truth and justice for those missing

Montevideo, Aug 29 (Prensa Latina) Uruguay remembers on Friday the victims of the dictatorship who remain missing, as the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances is commemorated.

The ceremony will take place at the Zitarroza Hall in this capital, with the participation of family members, artists, and social representatives united in the effort to keep the memory alive and continue demanding truth and justice.

There are approximately 194 people who are missing due to the de facto regime that ruled Uruguay between 1973 and 1985, and other dictatorships in the region that coordinated their repression and crimes through Operation Condor.

The Association of Mothers and Relatives of Detained and Missing Persons organized the event.

There will be a discussion with Manuel Gonçalves, a member of the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo (Argentina), historian Carlos Demasi, and representatives of the Association.

The commemoration takes place in the context of the 40th anniversary of the restoration of democracy, which still owes a great deal to human rights and the application of justice for those responsible for crimes against humanity.
