Unknown virus hits Gaza, suffering from Israeli bombings

Ramallah, Sept 1 (Prensa Latina) Authorities in Gaza warned about an unknown virus that has caused a surge in flu cases amid a collapse of the territory's health system as a result of 23 months of Israeli attacks.

The director general of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Munir al-Barash, explained to the press that they have lost the ability to diagnose diseases due to the destruction caused by the aggression.

Viruses attack people without us knowing their sources due to the lack of laboratories that allow us to examine their nature, he stressed.

The Government Media Office in the enclave also warned of the new outbreak “amid catastrophic health conditions resulting from the blockade and the ongoing genocide.”

Its rapid spread is due to severe overcrowding, lack of water and ventilation, and the deterioration of health services as a result of the war and the restrictions imposed by Israel, he denounced.

He noted that the few functioning hospitals are addressing the crisis, despite severe shortages of staff and supplies.

The agency revealed that infections number in the thousands across all of the Strip’s governorates, with daily increases, particularly among children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.
