Syria resumes crude oil exports after prolonged pause

Damascus, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) Syria today completed the first oil export in several years with the shipment of 600 thousand barrels of heavy crude from the port terminal of Tartus, aboard the tanker Nissos Christiana, bound for the international company P Serv Energy.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Energy on its Telegram channel, the operation is part of government plans to regain the country’s presence in foreign markets, invigorate the oil sector and expand cooperation with foreign companies, which will include future hydrocarbon shipments.

The head of Energy, Mohammed Al-Bashir, described the maneuver as “a historic step that reincorporates Syria into the world energy panorama”, and ratified on the social network X the commitment of his ministry with the reconstruction of the sector and the strengthening of the national presence in the international crude oil trade.

For his part, the general director of the Syrian Oil Transportation Company, Maan Pasha, explained that the cargo corresponds to both the production of domestic fields and the surplus of the Baniyas and Homs refineries, currently operating at full capacity.

According to him, the stability in the availability of derivatives in the domestic market made it possible to allocate part of the production for export, with the consistent contribution to the national economy and to the generation of foreign currency.
