According to the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration, the event marks a new step in regional energy cooperation due to the fact that collaboration in this sector is a key part of pragmatic cooperation in the region.
Since July of last year, when China assumed the rotating presidency of the SCO, Chinese companies have signed, initiated, or put into operation more than 160 projects in power generation and renewable energy, and more than 60 projects in oil, gas, and other sectors, with a total value of approximately 3.8 trillion yuan (about $520 billion), they added.
The National Energy Administration emphasized that these projects have significantly contributed to the economic and social development of the organization’s member countries.
As next steps, China will seek to deepen exchanges and practical cooperation, expand the space for clean energy, and strengthen regional energy governance, the same source noted.
The construction of a secure, green, and shared regional energy system will also be promoted, with the aim of generating concrete and sustainable results for all participating countries.
