The news agency reported that some 3,640 people have also been injured so far as rescue operations continue.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Afghan government, informed on his X profile the recovery of hundreds of bodies from the rubble of destroyed homes in the Mazar Dara area of the Nurgal district, the Diva-Gul Dara area of the Chawkay district, in Chapadara, and other affected areas.
Fitrat stated that search and rescue works continue, and tents have been set up for the population in several areas. The delivery of initial and urgent aid continues in an organized manner.
The quake struck around midnight on Sunday in the provinces of Kunar, where the greatest number of casualties and damage was recorded in Laghman, Nangarhar, Nuristan, and Panjshir.
Several countries, including India, Pakistan, China, Iran, Turkiye, and Turkmenistan, sent humanitarian aid for those displaced by the powerful earthquake.
