Youssouf, speaking at the opening of the Second Africa-CARICOM (Caribbean Community) Summit, also called for the dismantling of structural and systemic injustice.
He underscored the importance of the conclave, describing it as a “decisive moment” and a “turning point” toward collective aspiration.
He emphasized that the fight for restorative justice is not only about addressing the wrongs of the past, but also about building a more just and equitable future.
In his judgment, historians will undoubtedly record that, since Addis Ababa, Africa and the Caribbean renewed their commitment to honor their ancestors, uplift their descendants, and reclaim a common destiny in freedom, justice, and unity.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed the AU’s firm stance on the matter.
“The African Union proudly and firmly supports our Caribbean brothers and sisters in every step toward restorative justice.”
