Díaz-Canel: Visit to Laos reaffirms importance of bilateral ties

Vientiane, Sept 7 (Prensa Latina) The First Secretary of the Communist Party (PCC) Central Committee and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel emphasized that his visit here reaffirms the high importance placed on developing bilateral ties and political dialogue with Laos.

Diaz-Canel made this statement while being received at the Presidential Palace by the Secretary General of the People’s Revolutionary Party (PPRL) and Laotian President, Thongloun Sisoulith, whom he thanked for all the displays of affection and hospitality received by the high-level delegation he has led since arriving in Laos the day before.

Sisoulith, for his part, agreed with Diaz-Canel in highlighting the fact that they have met on several occasions recently and noted that this visit will be another milestone in the traditional friendly relations between the two countries and will serve to deepen them and achieve greater results.

The visit of the PCC General Secretary and Cuban President to Laos concludes a tour that began in Vietnam and then continued in China, from where he traveled here.

The historic and fraternal ties between Cuba and Laos, which established diplomatic relations in November 1974, date back to the late 1960s and early 1970s, when the first Cuban medical brigade arrived at the Viengsay Caves in Houapanh Province to provide services to the population.
