At an event in the northern state of Amazonas, Lula criticized the moves of his son, Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, in the United States.
He pointed out that the parliamentarian sought support from the U.S. ruler, Donald Trump, for Washington to apply sanctions against Brazil, which he described as a shameful act, due to the trial his father is facing as a coup leader.
“We live in a delicate moment, in which we see elected candidates, aware of their mistakes, sending their son to ask the U.S. government to punish Brazil,” Lula said, without directly naming the ultra-right politician.
So far, the Supreme Federal Court (STF) has two favorable votes, out of a possible five, to convict Bolsonaro.
Judge Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the case, affirmed that there is enough evidence that Bolsonaro headed a criminal organization to perpetuate himself in power after losing the 2022 elections.
