The agreement was the result of talks in Moscow between Ethiopian Minister of State for Culture and Sports, Nefisa Al-Mahdi, and Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev.
Al-Mahdi highlighted the historic relationship between the two countries and emphasized the need to extend this cooperation to the sports sector. In this regard, he expressed interest in exchanges in vocational training, sports science, nutrition, academy management, and technology transfer.
Degtyarev, for his part, reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to working closely with Ethiopia to boost relations in the sector, which he believes would breed opportunities for mutual growth.
The African minister is currently leading the Ethiopian Public Diplomacy Group’s international tour of Russia, which included presentations of the “Ethiopia on the Rise” cultural showcase in Moscow and St. Petersburg last week.
The local representation, comprised of more than 70 artists, showcases cultural heritage through traditional music, dance, fashion, and coffee. It also highlights Ethiopia’s ancient civilization, its historical legacy, and the diversity of its people.
