Turkiye: UN declaration on Palestine isolates Israel

Ankara, Sept 16 (Prensa Latina) The recognition of Palestine by Western states will reinforce Israel's diplomatic isolation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared, following the New York declaration, supported by 142 countries.

Recent votes by the United Nations (UN) show that Tel Aviv is increasingly isolated, Erdogan said, stressing that the international community holds the Zionist government responsible for acts they describe as genocide.

In the future, more countries that have so far abstained could join in recognizing Palestine, thus increasing pressure on Israel, he stated.

According to the president, Israel is exerting increasing pressure on the Palestinians and showing its true colors, while states that previously ignored the situation can no longer remain on the sidelines.

The New York Declaration marked a milestone that radically changed the diplomatic balance on the Palestinian issue, and “Turkiye is ready to reaffirm its position from the UN rostrum and give a voice to the oppressed before the entire world,” he stated.

He also remembered the attack that the Israel Defense Forces launched on September 9 against a delegation from the Palestinian movement Hamas that was in Doha to negotiate peace in the Gaza Strip.

On September 12, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution supporting the creation of the State of Palestine, and today the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory published a report concluding that Israel committed acts of genocide in Gaza.
