Such decision follows the protests that forced the cancellation of the final stage of the Vuelta a Espana bicycle ride due to the presence of an Israeli team.
The initiative also targets future events, such as the Euroleague basketball tournament, which already has matches scheduled on Spanish soil for one of the Israeli clubs in the tournament in October.
Along the same lines, Spain cast doubt on its future participation in the Eurovision Song Contest if Israel continues to participate.
Furthermore, RTVE announced that, in any case, it will not broadcast Eurovision if Israel persists in having Israel among its competitors.
The RTVE Board of Directors agreed this Tuesday to withdraw the Spanish delegation from the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, becoming the fifth country to announce its withdrawal, joining Ireland, Slovenia, Iceland, and the Netherlands.
Also regarding ties with Tel Aviv, an official statement indicated that the foreign ministers of Spain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Slovenia, Indonesia, Ireland, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Oman, Pakistan, Turkey, Qatar, and South Africa expressed concern for the safety of the Global Sumud Flotilla.
Specifically, the statement specified that the Global Sumud Flotilla reported on its objective of delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and raising awareness about the urgent humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people.
