Russian spacecraft with rodents will return to Earth on Friday

Moscow, Sept 16 (Prensa Latina) The Russian biosatellite Bion-M, carrying 75 mice and 1,500 fruit flies, will return to Earth after a month in space, Roscosmos announced.

“We expect the space capsule to land on September 19,” the institution said in a statement, remembering that Bion-M was launched into space on August 20 to study the effects of weightlessness and cosmic radiation on living organisms.

The satellite also carried medicinal plants, seeds, seaweed, microorganisms, and human and animal stem cells into space.

On August 22, Roscosmos showed videos of the mice on the Bion-M biosatellite. The Institute of Medical-Biological Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that the rodents were doing well.

Bion-M was developed by Progress, a leading company in the space industry.
