Massacre and escalation of violence denounced in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, Sept 18 (Prensa Latina) The National Network for the Defense of Human Rights of Haiti denounced the massacre that occurred in Cabaret and expressed concern about the deteriorating security climate in the country.

More than fifty members of the civilian population were killed during the latest massacre orchestrated by armed bandits in the town of Laboderie, in the Cabaret area.

We are denouncing the massacre perpetrated, which cost the lives of many citizens, including women, children, and the elderly.

The program director of this organization, Marie Rosie Auguste, said that this escalation of violence attests to the attackers’ desire to cause chaos and devastation among the civilian population.

Auguste called for the dismantling of armed gangs; the prosecution of bandits, whoever they may be, for the numerous crimes perpetrated against the citizenry; compensation for survivors and victims of the atrocities committed by gang members since 2018.
