Cuba to sing alongside Silvio at the Havana University steps

Havana, 19 Sep (Prensa Latina) Expectations are growing today as the day progresses, waiting for the University of Havana (UH) to be at 7:00 p.m., local time, to listen to Silvio Rodriguez, the troubadour of so many Cubans.

Several generations gather together for the occasion, including those who follow the renowned artist since his first albums and concerts of the mid-70s of the last century, as the younger ones, who find in their lyrics references to love, heartbreak, problems to face, the past and present of their country.

‘Silvio’s songs have accompanied my life. They say that I fell in love with El Mayor (one of his themes) when I was very young and since then have been in the good and bad days, in optimism and disappointment’, tells Prensa Latina Dixie Edith, a Cuban journalist and researcher.

For the UH teacher and mother of three young children, ‘Silvio does not sing: he calls, wakes up, hugs. Every verse has been part of my work, my classes, my dreams’.

Aylin Febles, deputy minister of communications of Cuba, is another one who does not miss a concert of the singer-songwriter. She proudly says that he attended more than 90 percent of his Neighborhood Tour performances.

Of what will happen this Friday, the university professor also recalled in exchange with Prensa Latina that the staircase was his gateway to the technological world.

‘And Silvio has been the spiritual support of my life. Each song has been the soundtrack of my most important moments, of my children, of my family, of my generation. In his songs I take refuge for everything. I need Silvio and this concert’, she commented.

This September 19, Carlos Alberto (Tim) Cremata, director of the children’s theater group La Colmenita, will be celebrating the 21st birthday of his daughter Maria Carla and will spend it at his side, ‘chanting with the Poet of Utopia and Truth, in this loving gift that he is giving to his America… !.Be Ready America.!’, he said enthusiastically.

The young Amalia Perez, recently graduated in International Relations, says that Silvio’s music accompanied her throughout her childhood, and a concert by him is also a moment of connection with his family through his songs.

The recital on the university steps will be the starting point of his journey with musicians to Chile (29 September, 1, 5 and 6 October), Argentina (11, 12 and 21 October), Uruguay (17 and 18 October), Peru (25 October) and Colombia (31 October and 2 November).

Silvio will travel accompanied by talented instrumentalists: on the piano Jorge Aragón; drums, congas and percussion Oliver Valdés; on the keyboards will be Emilio Vega; on the double bass the experienced Jorge Reyes; the three will carry it Maykel Elizarde; on the second guitars Rachid López; while in flute, clarinet and choirs, Niurka González.
