Ethiopia thanks IAEA donation to strengthen cancer care

Vienna, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia thanked the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for donating a linear accelerator to the Black Lion Hospital to strengthen cancer care, on the sidelines of a meeting of that global center that concluded in Austria.

Ethiopia’s Technology and Innovation Minister Belete Molla made this remark during a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, as part of the collateral agenda for the 69th General Conference of that United Nations agency, held on September 15-19.

Molla highlighted the growing bilateral collaboration to strengthen cancer services in Addis Ababa, as well as the commitment to expanding the energy mix and developing nuclear technology.

The minister requested continued support from the IAEA, especially in human resource training and technical assistance as the African nation progresses.

“Grateful for Director General Grossi’s firm reaffirmation that the IAEA is ready to support Ethiopia’s peaceful nuclear transition, including our goal of introducing nuclear energy in the next decade,” the Ethiopian minister wrote on his X profile.

Following the launch of a nuclear medicine service at Ethiopia’s Black Lion Hospital in June, he assured that the linear accelerator (LINAC) provided by the international agency will expand access to that treatment.
