Paraguay reports at least 28 women murdered in 2025

Asuncion, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) Some 28 women were murdered this year in Paraguay, which also reports 41 victims of attempted murders and two cases of homicide in situations of violence against women, local media highlight.

The murders, which left 51 children orphaned, were mostly perpetrated by the victim’s partner, although a son-in-law, a male acquaintance, four ex-partners, and a stepfather were also identified among the perpetrators, according to a report from the Prosecutor’s Office’s Open Data program, cited by La Nacion. According to the document, the perpetrators used knives on 11 occasions, while a firearm was used on eight occasions.

Meanwhile, the 28 murdered women were Paraguayan, with an average age between 12 and 80, and one of them belonged to an indigenous community.

The Prosecutor’s Office report highlights that the victims died from asphyxiation, trauma, or beatings, and two of them from severe burns.

It also exposes cases of cruelty, such as that of a victim who was “dismembered and decapitated” by the attacker.

Despite the data provided, human rights organizations believe the number of crimes is higher and the number of murdered women could reach 30.
