During the forum, scheduled for September 23 ans 27 in New York, Australia is expected to recognize the Palestinian state, as announced by the leader since August.
In justifying the decision, Albanese stated that peace would be only temporary as long as Israelis and Palestinians do not have their respective permanent states.
In recent weeks, the Australian Government has condemned a number of Israeli attacks against civilians in Gaza City, including an attack on a hospital where five journalists and many local residents were killed.
He also criticized the announced plans to occupy Gaza and the continued rejection of calls for a ceasefire by most countries in the world.
As Albanese said, the two-state solution is humanity’s best hope for breaking the cycle of violence in the Middle East and ending conflict, suffering and famine in Gaza. On the other hand, the head of state said that he plans to expose details of the law on banning users under 16 years old from accessing social networks, which will come into force in Australia in December, due to the interest generated by this pioneering initiative in several nations.
After the stay in the United States, Albanese’s official agenda includes trips to the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, where he will meet with senior leaders.
