Thousands of young people with different posters and flags shook the Historic Center last night after arriving from different parts of the city at the central Plaza San Martín, occupied by a large number of police officers who were unable to keep the marchers, as is almost always the case, only in the streets surrounding the plaza.
The crowd advanced chanting slogans referring to their various demands, opposing the government and parliament, and protesting against a recent reform of the private pension system which, they believe, will leave them destitute when they reach old age.
The demonstrators also condemned what they consider to be the lack of effectiveness in the fight against the rampant organized crime that plagues the country with massive extortion and daily murders.
One of the many comments circulating on the internet noted that tonight “San Martín Square became a scene of citizen resistance” with the convergence of youth organizations and social organizations.
