Vietnam dismantles organ trafficking network

Hanoi, Sept 21 (Prensa Latina) The Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam discovered and dismantled a gang that trafficked human body parts (liver and kidney) in several locations, according to press reports released.

As a result of the investigation, seven citizens were arrested on September 10. Led by Pham Van Hung, a 42-year-old resident of Hai Phong City, they were buying and selling these organs.

Based on the investigation, documents, evidence collected, and statements from those involved in the network, the police determined that these individuals had even sold their own kidneys and livers, so they were familiar with the procedures for buying and selling body parts as donations.

According to the government’s online newspaper, to avoid detection by authorities, those involved in the kidney and liver trafficking network frequently changed their residences and primarily used social media to conduct transactions.

Authorities determined that, from early 2024 to the present, Van Hung and his accomplices negotiated the sale of kidneys for approximately 25 to 30 successful transplants performed at major hospitals in Hanoi.
