The Angolan leader, who is also at the head of the African Union this year, went to the UN headquarters in New York, where he met with Guterres to address the world situation, marked by “turbulence and a context of uncertainty and unpredictability”.
“I leave here encouraged by the prospect that, given the convergence of views, there will be a firm commitment on our part and on the part of the international community in general to the work we must do to re-establish the role of the United Nations in the struggle for world peace.”, Lourenço wrote in the honor book.
The Angolan head of state began with this meeting his official program of participation in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
This Saturday, the Angolan foreign minister, Te Antonio, spoke about his country’s participation in this global event, whose position is in favor of an urgent reform of global governance institutions to better reflect the realities and challenges of the 21st century.
Speaking to the local press, he said that Angola plays an important regional role in Africa and has a strong commitment to multilateralism.
Mentioned that as a member of the Group of 77 plus China and the African Union, the country promotes equity in trade, financing development and technology transfer, as well as acting as spokesperson for the less industrialized nations and advocate for peace, with clear responsibilities in their region.
