“With the people’s vote, President Luis Arce took office in November 2020 and will hand over power to whoever receives the support of the sovereign in the October runoff,” Ruiz said in an interview with the state-run Bolivia TV channel.
Ruiz categorically rejected a bill presented by Senator Pedro Benjamin Vargas, who proposed suspending the term of office of the members of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) and extending that of the authorities elected in the 2020 elections.
Regarding Senator Andronico Rodriguez, who is close to the president of the upper house, Ruiz reiterated that this bill “is not in tune with our national government, it is not in line with our president, Luis Arce, because, as he always says: we came to power through the ballot box and we will hand over the government to the people’s choice through the ballot box.”
He mentioned that the government has guaranteed the resources to organize the runoff election on October 19.
