DRC promotes agenda as a UNSC member

Kinshasa, Sep 24 (Prensa Latina) Felix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), commented on his country's agenda as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), addressing the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which continues on Wednesday.

Tshisekedi thanked the member States for the trust and solidarity expressed in allowing him to join that body for the 2026-2027 term, and said the DRC’s participation will be “resolutely constructive and comprehensive.”

The president pointed out that they maintain two inseparable priorities: peace and security, on one side, and conflict prevention and resolution, the other; hence, they intend to contribute actively to the development and implementation of the New Agenda for Peace.

He added that, with the country’s potential and experience, they intend to promote the reform of peacekeeping and peacebuilding operations, as well as the adaptation of the United Nations collective security system.

Tshisekedi noted that the DRC also aspires to place exemplary governance of its strategic minerals at the center of the debate, to ensure their exploitation in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, economic sovereignty, and the well-being of its populations.
