Cuban filmography honored at Villa del Cine Festival in Colombia

Bogota, Sep 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is the guest of honor at the 11th edition of the Villa del Cine Festival, which will feature 65 competing works distributed across 13 categories.

During the event, held in the legendary city of Villa de Leyva, attendees will be able to enjoy the documentary “Maisinicu, Half a Century Later,” by director Mitchell Lobaina, which pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Cuban film “El Hombre de Maisinicu” (The Man from Maisinicu) (1973).

Another Cuban production is “Cuentos de un dia mas” (Stories of another day) which explores human relationships, love, and loneliness during the Covid-19 pandemic through six independent short films.

The ensemble piece, by producer Reymel Delgado on behalf of i4 Films, is also coordinated by renowned Cuban filmmaker Fernando Perez.

The participation of the largest of the Antilles in the event is the result of the exchange between the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) and the Colombian Film Heritage Foundation.

The Colombian entity also facilitated the participation of representatives from the island in the academic program’s workshops on the restoration of three animated short films by Elpidio Valdes, directed by Cuban director Juan Padron (1947-2020).

Each of the competing categories features five w orks that will compete for the Tunjo statuette, an award designed by master goldsmiths from the city of Raquira.
